Every Scar Tells a Story

Scars come in many shapes, sizes, and colors.  According to the American Academy of Dermatology, more than 100 million Americans per year develop a scar of some type.

There are many different treatments available here at Maine Laser Skin Care to treat the appearance of scars depending on the age, location, and size of the individual scar.   Hyperpigmented or red scars, for example, can be lightened by laser.

The advantage of laser therapy is that it can treat the scar area without affecting the surrounding normal tissue.  Lasers can also help the scar to blend in with the existing pigmentation of the surrounding skin.

For scar tissue that is raised above the surrounding skin, there are several techniques to resurface the scar.  These include lasers that penetrate deeper into the scar, Microneedling with or without radiofrequency, and the use of platelet rich plasma.

These methods all help to reduce scar tissue by stimulating collagen production in the areas.  They result in a controlled remodeling of the scar and a smoother and less obvious scar.

For depressed scars such as acne scars, Microneedling and lasers again can help.  However, there is also a place for filler injections in some cases.  All these methods help to lift the scar back to a baseline level.

We always tell patients and clients who come in for consultations for treatment of scars that we can’t make scars go away completely and restore your skin 100% back to its previous state.  However, we can make scars look a lot better and less obvious.  Our mission is to help you to look and feel better despite the scars that life sometimes gives us.
