Hair Loss and Thinning Causes and Treatments

Hair loss and thinning unfortunately are common conditions that affect both men and women.  Up to 50% of women are affected by hair thinning by the age of 50.  Factors affecting hair loss include nutrition, stress, inflammation, hormonal changes, and aging.

The amount of hair growth and the quality of that hair have been documented to affect a person's quality of life, especially among women. Studies have also shown that hair loss and thinning are best treated with multiple approaches, which is why we at Maine Laser Skin Care utilize a comprehensive and holistic approach to hair loss treatment.

First of all, we recommend treating any nutritional deficiencies that may contribute to hair loss with the daily use of Nutrafol.  It has been shown that protein, zinc, and vitamin deficiencies can delay hair growth, and supplementation can correct the imbalances.

Second, we do find that using topical minoxidil (e.g. Rogaine) is helpful when combined with other treatments even if it did not prevent hair loss when used alone.  We encourage our patients to continue or start using Rogaine or its generic form in combination with our active treatments.

Finally, we use both platelet rich plasma (PRP) scalp injections or TED (trans-epidermal delivery) treatments to stimulate scalp circulation and rejuvenate dormant hair follicles.  Over the series of 3 monthly treatments, studies have shown that when either TED or PRP treatments are performed in concert with nutritional supplementation and the use of topical minoxidil, there is a progressive increase in total hair counts as well as improvements in hair appearance and volume.

The improvements in hair through our comprehensive approach are noted by dermatologists, individual patients, and their hair stylists during clinical studies.  85% of patients see overall improvement in hair quality and health, and 80% feel that their hair is stronger and longer.

We at Maine Laser Skin Care have performing hair regrowth treatments of various types over the past decade.  We also have the most experience of anyone in the entire state of Maine in both PRP and TED treatment technologies.
