Cellulite is not anyone's fault. It is not caused by your diet. It is not caused by how much you eat or what you eat. It is a natural part of human biology, and unfortunately, over 90% of women will exhibit cellulite over their life.
In fact, the dimpling we see with cellulite is not due to fat. As a result, cellulite will not be solved by exercise or purely external treatments like light therapies or laser.
The embarrassing dimples of cellulite will not go away until we treat the true source of the problem. The underlying source of cellulite dimpling is fibrous bands under the skin which cause tension and then pull down the skin.
This tension also causes pockets of fat cells to push up against the skin in between the fibrous bands. However, the fat is not the problem; the fibrous bands are.
Therefore, no amount of massaging, topical cream application, or external light therapies are going to address the fibrous bands that are the culprits. However, all hope is not lost.
Now there is a FDA-approved treatment for cellulite called QWO, which has been studied in more patients than any other treatment for cellulite. QWO has shown visible results of diminished cellulite-induced dimpling in one month after the 3-treatment protocol in patients with moderate to severe cellulite.
How does QWO work? QWO injections consist of enzymes called collagenases that target the fibrous bands we know are the causes of the dimpling of cellulite. When QWO is injected into the cellulite dimples in the buttocks, the fibrous bands under the skin are reduced.
The reduction of the fibrous brands allows the trapped pockets of fat to redistribute themselves, thereby smoothing the skin surface. This chemical process also stimulates new collagen production in these treated areas, resulting in more firm and smoother skin.
The QWO medication comes in individual vials which can each treat up to 12 dimples per vial. During the injection process, which takes 10-15 minutes, the person is lying face down on their stomach.
The current QWO treatment protocol calls for 3 treatments to be done to each dimple 3 weeks apart. Bruising is the expected side effect of this treatment, generally goes away within 2 weeks, and tends to lessen with each treatment.
Most patients have been very satisfied by the results they see after completion of this treatment. It is no wonder that for a relatively new treatment, QWO has won multiple awards in the media for Best New Skin Treatment in such publications as New Beauty, ELLE, Shape, and Cosmopolitan.
