Vampire Hair Regrowth Makes National News

Leafing through the Sunday newspaper a few weekends ago, I found an interesting article in Parade Magazine's "Stay Healthy" section.  This feature, titled "Help For Hair Growth," noted the use of platelet rich plasma (PRP) as a treatment for hair loss.

As I have previously written in our blog, the PRP portion of your blood contains growth factors and stem cells.  When this sample of your blood is injected into an area of thinning hair, hair follicles are stimulated to grow, resulting in thicker existing hair and new growth filling in.

The article correctly asserts that after the blood drawing and the centrifuge process to isolate the PRP, the procedure itself takes only a few minutes and with very little downtime.  So, right after the procedure is complete, you can just go about your day.
I frequently tell patients to bring in a baseball cap to wear after the procedure.  While you could walk or drive around anywhere after your appointment, wearing a hat would ensure no one else notices the way your head looks.

To quote the article, "Most patients will need to go through multiple rounds of PRP over the course of several months, but many will notice less hair loss and even regrowth within the first few treatments."  I would agree with that statement in our experience here at Maine Laser Skin Care.  Most people usually need about three treatments, each roughly one month apart, to achieve maximum effect.

Vampire Hair Growth remains one of our most frequent and popular procedures, and we have had significant positive results over the past 4 years we have been doing this treatment.  We at Maine Laser Skin Care are one of the most experienced practices performing PRP procedures in the state of Maine, and one of only two offices in the entire state of Maine that Dr Charles Runels, the inventor of the procedure, has personally certified.
