More Men Are Coming for Botox. Bro-tox is Real!

As the pandemic year has worn on, we at Maine Laser Skin Care have seen a big boost in appointments for Botox from both previous and new clients.  Many of them claim that their upper face is getting more scrutiny because everyone is still wearing masks, and the stress of this  past year is showing with more scowl and frown lines.

Interestingly, many more men percentage-wise are coming in for Botox.  They frequently say that the image they see of themselves on Zoom calls is not the image they want to convey to the world.

These men are seeing an aging and stressed face.  Like women, they want to look younger and more vital.

Men, most commonly, seem to be most concerned about the area around the eyes (e.g. crow's feet) and the forehead.  Once these facial regions are relaxed and show fewer lines as a result of Botox, these men are more inclined to return for maintenance ever after.

Surveys show that since the beginning of the pandemic, there has been about a 20% increase in men getting Botox.  The media has called the phenomenon of men getting more Botox as "Bro-tox".  However, the effects of social media such as Instagram as well as Zoom and other video calls more common during social distancing are certainly having their effects.

In the end, like women, men notice how they look in photos and on video and generally want to look their best.  Unlike women, men are less likely to talk about their use of Botox with other men for a variety of reasons.  Generally, men really do want to look better, younger, and less tired, but not plastic or waxen.

In the hands of experienced injectors like we have here at Maine Laser Skin Care, men can be assured of a naturally relaxed appearance without the downside concerns of being overdone or being noticeably plastic.  To quote one of our male clients recently, "For me personally, it came down to wanting to look good and less stressed after a very bad and stressful year.  I love the benefits of Botox and there is nothing wrong with that."
