As we get older, there comes a point where many of us look at our own eyes in the miror and see puffiness, sagging, or dark circles that don't go away with just a couple of good nights of sleep. There are certainly some people that do require a certain type of surgery known as blepharoplasty if the skin around their eyes is excessively loose due to genetics or age.
However, in 2020, Maine Laser Skin Care fortunately has a number of minimally-invasive treatments available that can take the place of, or at least significantly delay, plastic surgery. One simple method to improve the appearance around the eyes at an early stage is the use of Botox.
Proper positioning of the injection of Botox can relax muscles that are creating wrinkles and crêpiness around and under the eyes. We can also give your eyes a lift with a technique that will elevate the tail of the eyebrow.
With these methods, they eyes can look refreshed and less tired in appearance. Botox will generally last 3-4 months and, if successful, can be continued indefinitely.
Loss of fat and collagen in the mid face and upper cheeks as we age can also cause the appearance of hollowness under the eyes. Depending on the facial analysis, many times using dermal fillers to enhance the "apple" part of the upper cheeks can support the underlying tissues and reduce the appearance of decreased volume.
In other cases, an area under the eyes known as the tear trough may be the most prominent feature. Smaller amounts of filler that are delicately placed into that area can have dramatic effects on the tired and older look.
Most fillers will last at least one year. Upper cheek thicker fillers such as Voluma have been know to last up to two years.
Another method involves tightening the area of the eyelids and under the eyes with the use of micro needling. Microscopic and sterile needles are used to stimulate collagen production in the treated area, resulting in a tightening of the skin.
Secret RF is a particularly advanced method of combining microneedling with radio frequency skin tightening. Since we began using this technique over the past year, patients undergoing Secret RF have seen dramatic improvements around their eyes.
When your collagen is enhanced in this limited area, the skin shows improved tone, firmness, and texture. The thicker skin resulting from the increase in collagen can also reduce the appearance of dark circles.
Depending on the laxity of the skin under and around the eyes, 3-5 treatments about one month apart can achieve the desired results, and can last for at least a year.
If you feel that you are looking tired all the time even when you feel fine and energetic, these advances in skincare technology for the periorbital area can be the solution to your problem without the risks, downtime, and expense of plastic surgery. Because everyone's face and eyes are different, there is no one method that works for everyone.
