At a recent pre-COVID19 dermatology symposium, a number of studies were presented that confirmed what we have seen here at Maine Laser Skin Care. Namely, that radiofrequency micro needling, Secret RF, effectively treats the effects of skin aging such as wrinkles and fine lines while also treating acne and traumatic scars.
These significant effects are achieved on the face and elsewhere on the body with minimal risk and downtime compared to other methods with similar directives, such as surgery. Since radiofrequency micro needling is not a laser or light-based method, it can be used regardless of an individual's skin type, as the treatment delivers energy in a manner that is not dependent on targeting melanin in the skin.
The micro needles' puncturing of the most superficial layer of the skin helps to tighten the immediate surface. The depth of the needles and the amount of energy delivered by the radio frequency component can treat deeper problems like scars with greater safety than other more aggressive lasers or surgical procedures.

For patient comfort, we apply a topical numbing cream to a patient's skin right before the procedure. Most people experience mild discomfort at most as this cream soakes into the skin.
After a period of numbing, we clean the skin area thoroughly with alcohol. All the equipment touching the skin is sterile, making infection very unlikely.
Following the procedure, there is no pain. However, the treated area will look pink or red, very much like a light sunburn or wind burn.
The redness lasts over the next several days at most, and the skin will feel like sand paper for that period of time. Once the superficial healing happens, the skin will feel smoother and tighter.
After the first few days post-treatment with Secret RF, the healing and collagen stimulation ramps up under the skin's surface. This underlying process helps even more with making the skin tightening more optimal.
