Dark Circles Under Eyes? PRP To The Rescue!

We here at Maine Laser Skin Care have been certified providers of trademarked Vampire, or Platelet Rich Plasma, procedures since 2015.  Dr. Burke was trained by Dr. Charles Runels, the creator of the Vampire procedures, himself.

Dr. Burke also regularly participates in webinars sponsored by the American Cellular Medicine Association, which conducts ongoing research on the use of PRP in medical care.  One recent webinar reviewed a study published in Dermatologic Therapy concerning the use of PRP in the undereye area to treat dark circles and to rejuvenate the thin skin characteristic of that area.  Additionally, several practitioners discussed with Dr. Runels the techniques to enhance the undereye appearance without surgery.

As with all other Vampire or PRP procedures, blood is drawn in a special tube, and then placed in a FDA cleared ultracentrifuge.  After 20 minutes of spinning, this tube will show separation of the various layers of blood.

We are then able to extract the PRP, which contains the natural growth factors and stem cells within your blood.  This "liquid gold", as some of the doctors who use PRP for facial injections call it, is injected in the region below the eyes where we want to enhance collagen production.

The growth factors in PRP begin to stimulate the cells that produce collagen within the first several days.  Over the next several weeks and months, more natural collagen production thickens the thin skin under the eyes, resulting in a smoother and less hollow look.  The slightly thicker skin also has the benefit of improving the dark circles caused by the blood vessels under the surface.

Another benefit of PRP under the eyes is safety.  Since we are using your own blood, no allergic reactions are possible.

The PRP diffuses naturally under the eyes, and does not cause any lumps or bumps that can occur with filler. We at Maine Laser Skin Care have used PRP for some time in this area, especially in patients who were adverse with the use of filler.  As a result, we have had lots of experience with these techniques and have seen excellent results.

If you have been concerned about your under-eye appearance and wanted a less invasive approach to treatment, PRP could be your answer. Call us either in Scarborough at (207) 303-0125, or in Augusta at (207) 873-2158 to schedule a free consultation or appointment.
