The numbers are in, and the office cosmetic medical procedures are on the rise again. According to the latest surveys by American dermatologic societies, 2018 saw a 7.5% increase in cosmetic skin procedures from the previous year and a 60% increase since 2012.
That amounts to a total of 9 million cosmetic medical treatments in the last year alone. The numbers for the recently ended 2019 haven't come in yet, but at this rate, you can expect them to look equally as promising.
The national ranking of the most popular non-invasive (i.e. non-surgical) cosmetic procedures is as follows (in number of procedures):
- Laser treatments- 3.4 million.
- Botox and other muscle relaxers- 2.1 million.
- Soft tissue dermal fillers such as Juvederm- 1.6 million.
- Nonsurgical body sculpting such as Coolsculpting- 623,000.
- Chemical peels- 497,000.
- Microneedling- 262,000.
Locally, particularly here at Maine Laser Skin Care and Medi-Spa, we have experienced consistent growth with the addition of our Scarborough office over a year ago, and ongoing interest in cosmetic laser and injection procedures in Maine overall. We have seen an over 27% increase in our overall menu of procedures, and an astounding 35% increase in Botox alone.
Cosmetic medical procedures have not only entered the mainstream; they are the mainstream. They are also seen less as the luxury item of the rich and famous as they were roughly 15 years ago.
Everyone wants to look better, younger, and less tired if there is a minimally-invasive technology available to make it happen. As we have been saying for years, there are many such technologies at Maine Laser Skin Care alone, and we are consistently keeping up to date with the latest advancements if they are proven to be effective.
