Fraxel re:store ... the original

The Fraxel re:store laser is the latest, state-of-the-art device that we just added here at Maine Laser Skin Care, making us the first to bring this new technology to the central Maine area.

Results you can see and feel

Fraxel Laser® is a revolutionary laser treatment that helps you to remove years from your appearance. Fraxel is the pioneer of "fractional photothermolysis," a technology in which thousands of microscopic laser columns - each just one-tenth the diameter of a hair follicle - treat a fraction of the skin at a time without affecting the surrounding tissue. These laser columns stimulate the production of younger, smoother, healthier skin to replace damaged tissue. Indications for therapy include: acne scars, chicken pox scars, melasma, sun spots, crow's feet, stretch marks, lip lines, sun-damaged chest and hands, décolletage, and sun-damaged skin.

Wrinkles and age spots may signify a life rich with laughter and excitement, but now you can keep the memories without the crows feet and dark patches. Whether you're off to a new job interview, have a romantic getaway or simply want to erase the signs of aging, Fraxel re:store treatment can return your skin to its original beauty.

What it treats

As the original treatment in the Fraxel family, Fraxel re:store treatment quickly rejuvenates your skin, correcting moderate imperfections without impacting your daily routine.

Fraxel re:store treatment has FDA clearances for:

  • Wrinkles around eyes
  • Scars: acne, surgical scars, stretch marks
  • Hyper pigmentation, sun damage, age spots
  • Melasma (irregular patches of brown skin on the forehead, cheeks, upper lip and nose)
  • Actinic keratoses (precancerous lesions)

Remarkable results. Remarkably simple.

With Fraxel re:store treatment, it's easy to renew your inner beauty. The procedure lasts about 30 minutes, and most people return to routine activities the very next day. Most men and women experience immediate results and see the most benefit over three to five treatments.

How Does it work?

How Does it work?

The science of Fraxel treatment involves three key components:

  • The epidermis-the outer layer of our skin
  • The dermis-sub-layers of skin that include collagen and elastin
  • Microscopic laser columns-rebuilding skin from the inside out
Under the epidermis is a network of collagen and elastin, which are proteins that keep your skin youthful and tight. But as you age and get more sun exposure, those proteins simply break down faster than your body can rebuild them. As a result, your skin may start to sag and show damage like wrinkles, lines or spots.

This is where Fraxel laser treatment can help. Microscopic laser columns penetrate deep into the dermis to create tiny wounds, which trigger your body's natural response system to heal those wounds. This process expedites your body's remodeling of collagen and elastin, which results in tighter, fresher, more youthful-looking skin. This is how Fraxel treatment creates new skin from the inside out.

Just as important are the areas of skin that Fraxel treatment doesn't touch. Because the treatment is so precise, the laser columns target only a fraction of skin at a time, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. This "fractional" treatment allows your body to heal the skin faster than if the entire area were treated at once.

In an initial consultation, Dr. Burke or another trained staff member here at Maine Laser Skin Care will determine the best Fraxel laser treatment plan for your desired results. Then, when you're ready for treatment, it'll be done right in our office. Here's what happens:
  • The area of your skin to be treated is thoroughly cleansed.
  • A topical anesthetic ointment is applied.
  • About 60 to 90 minutes later, once the anesthetic has taken full effect, treatment begins.
  • The treatment takes just 20 to 25 minutes for a full face.
  • Then the anesthetic is completely removed.

See what the treatment looks like.

Remarkable results with minimal downtime

After the procedure, depending on the aggressiveness of your Fraxel treatment, you will have some degree of redness, swelling or a sunburn sensation, which are signs that your body's natural healing process is building new skin from the inside out. You can return to routine activities in as little as one hour or, for more aggressive treatments, as few as a few days.
